WE’RE HIRING – EXPERIENCED OVERHEAD DOOR TECHNICIAN

Timmins Overhead Door is looking for an experienced, competent Overhead Door Technician to join our team.

We are looking for a tradesperson, not just an installer — someone who can troubleshoot, think for themselves, work safely, take initiative, and see a job through from start to finish.

Overhead door experience is a must. We are looking for someone who already understands the trade and can contribute to our team.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

• Previous overhead/garage door experience is required
• Commercial and industrial overhead door experience is a strong asset
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
• Basic electrical knowledge for troubleshooting operators, controls, photo eyes, limit switches and related components
• Welding experience and ability is required
• Forklift experience
• Comfortable using hand tools, power tools, machinery and shop equipment
• Able to accurately measure, lay out installations, and follow drawings and manufacturer instructions
• Comfortable working from ladders and elevated work platforms and working at heights
• Physically capable of lifting and carrying door sections, operators, tracks and equipment, as well as bending, kneeling, climbing and working overhead
• Safety-minded and willing to follow PPE and company safety requirements at all times
• Able to troubleshoot and make good decisions in the field
• Able to work independently without constant supervision and work effectively as part of a team
• Able to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers and management
• Able to complete service paperwork and clearly document work performed, deficiencies and parts required
• Comfortable using a smartphone for photos, communication, GPS and work-related documentation
• Reliable, punctual and dependable
• Must be able to take direction and accept feedback
• Strong work ethic and initiative are essential

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants must currently have:

• WHMIS
• Working at Heights
• Elevated Work Platform (EWP)

All required training/certifications must have at least six months remaining before expiry.

Applicants must also have a valid Ontario G driver’s licence with a clean driving record.

You must be legally entitled to work in Canada. Timmins Overhead Door is not offering immigration sponsorship for this position.

CUSTOMER SITE REQUIREMENTS

Our technicians work at a variety of commercial and industrial sites, and some customers have additional requirements that must be met before a technician is permitted on site.

Applicants must be willing and able to meet customer-specific site access, orientation, safety, and security requirements when required. Depending on the customer or job site, this may include drug and/or alcohol testing, including 12-panel drug screening.

The ability to meet these requirements is important because technicians must be able to access the customer sites they are assigned to.

OUT-OF-TOWN WORK IS NON-NEGOTIABLE

This is important.

Every technician takes their turn on out-of-town work.

We provide as much notice as possible and try to plan travel fairly amongst the crew. However, travelling for work is part of this position.

If you are unwilling or unable to work out of town when it is your turn, please do not apply.

THERE IS ALWAYS WORK TO BE DONE

Not every day is packed with service calls and installations.

On quieter days, there is plenty of work in the shop and yard — cleaning, organizing, maintaining equipment, preparing materials, keeping vehicles and work areas in order, inventory-related work and helping wherever needed.

We are a small company, and everyone does their part.

We want someone who takes initiative. If the service calls are finished, that doesn't mean the workday is finished. We shouldn't have to continuously find something for you to do.

HOURS

Typical hours are:

Monday–Friday
8:00 AM–5:00 PM
1-hour lunch

However, our hours depend on the job.

There will be days that start at 6:00 or 7:00 AM and may run until 7:00 or 8:00 PM. Emergency calls, travel, weather, customer requirements and job-site conditions can all affect the schedule.

Flexibility is required.

TRANSPORTATION

You must have your own reliable transportation to and from our shop.

A company vehicle is not provided for commuting to and from work.

Company vehicles are provided for company work as required.

If you aren't interested in physical work, helping in the shop or yard when it's quiet, occasional long days, meeting customer site-access requirements, or taking your fair turn on out-of-town jobs, this probably isn't the position for you.
