Position Overview:
Reporting to the Vice President, the Construction Estimator will be responsible for preparing high quality professional quotations and estimates for multi-unit/commercial projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry, have excellent organizational skills, be detail oriented and a great communicator. You are entrepreneurial at heart, and an innovative, creative team player who leads by example in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial and industrial mechanical projects, ensuring projects are profitable and align with client expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed estimates for mechanical construction projects, including labor, materials, and equipment, by estimating probable costs of materials, labor, equipment, and subcontracts for projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications
- Prepare bids, proposals, and tender documents
- Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, design, production, and installation on all changes and adjustments to cost estimates
- Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards and conduct negotiations
- Prepare, maintain, and coordinate a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors
- Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures
- Maintain and monitor schedules to ensure on-time, high-quality installations
- Attend site meetings as needed
- Assist in monitoring construction conformity and compliance with plans, specifications, and codes
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and forecasts at regular intervals for the duration of a project
- Participates in various departmental and interdepartmental meetings or training as required
- Other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Strong business and financial acumen; including strong business communication skills, both written and oral
- High-energy, detail-oriented, results-driven, self-motivated individual
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Reliability, integrity, passion and in-person presentation skills with a strong ability to establish relationships and close deals
- Exceptional, industry leading, customer service skills with a proven strength in exceeding client expectations and an ability to identify best product and fit for client needs
- Excellent planning, coordination, and scheduling skills
- 3-5+ years’ experience in Estimating coordinating multiple projects; experience in the construction industry and tendering process is strongly preferred
- University degree in Architecture, Building Science or, College diploma related to construction, building envelopes or similar, is considered an asset
- A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle an asset
- Familiarity and/or experience with various computer software and technical systems by way of obtaining product quotes and managing customer information
- Previous experience in Installation considered an asset
- Intermediate level (or better) Microsoft suite and experience with other drafting and estimating programs are an asset
- Must be flexible with work hours
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, piping).
- Proficient in estimating software
- Excellent analytical and mathematical skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
