POSITION SUMMARY:

 

To provide crisis assessment, planning and intervention, service coordination and consultation to clients referred to the mental health crisis service.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • To provide crisis assessment and intervention.
  • To know and function within standards of professional competence.
  • To participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team of Mental Health Services and work effectively with community agencies.
  • To complete psychosocial assessments and plan for effective intervention strategies for referred clients in collaboration with Emergency Physician.
  • To evaluate the psychosocial situation through interviews with the client, family members and/or friends.
  • To coordinate with other community agencies in the provision of necessary services to clients.
  • To inform the multi-disciplinary team and relevant community agencies of any changes that may affect them.
  • To maintain good public relations by making social work resources known to the community and by utilizing resources of the community for the benefit of the client.
  • To recognize any physical or emotional problem outside the scope of practice and/or knowledge and refer to another professional staff member.
  • Provide crisis telephone assessment and intervention.
  • Provide onsite assessment and intervention of psychiatric emergencies.
  • Provide brief intervention, consultation and follow-up.
  • To participate as a member of Code White Team.
  • Design, maintain, implement and critically analyze client’s treatment trends and outcome from data collection and client evaluation methodologies.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Minimum B.S.W. or Registered Nurse educational requirements.
  • Must be registered with the Ontario College of Certified Social Workers and Social Service Workers or with the Ontario College of Nurses.
  • Must have the ability to function as a member of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques associated with Crisis Intervention assessment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must have the ability to elicit critical information in a stressful situation, provide rapid assessment to formulate an immediate and appropriate intervention strategy should the situation warrant same, and write clear and accurate reports.
  • Must possess computer skills and knowledge of Meditech an asset.
  • Employment history which demonstrates regular attendance at work.
  • Must be available to work all shifts including weekends.
  • Must possess the ability to provide effective services to clients/patients in both English and French. Individuals who do not meet the language requirements of this posting are invited to submit their résumé for future consideration.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) would be considered an asset.

Compensation and Benefits

 

  • Starting salary is to be determined based on qualification of the applicant
  • Enrollment in Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan and BlueCross (Health and Dental Benefits)
