ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Northern Sun Mining currently has an exciting opportunity for a Sample Prep Technician to join our Metallurgical department. Reporting to the Lab Supervisor, the ideal candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing samples for analysis in a laboratory setting. This role is vital in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results while adhering to safety and quality standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for preparing mill samples on a daily basis: crushing samples, pulverizing samples, roll samples for proper mixing, splitting samples for external and/or internal assays and filtering samples.
- Maintain accurate records of all samples in the logbook and the computer database: millrun samples on a daily basis and concentrate values on an on-demand basis.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Work in compliance with prescribed company policies and procedures.
- Be proactive with company safety initiatives.
- Additional tasks as assigned by the Lab Supervisor and/or Engineering Personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma; post-secondary education in Chemical Engineering Technology or Metallurgical Engineering Technology or equivalent relevant work experience is an asset.
- Lab experience in an industrial environment is highly regarded.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Mill Common Core is an asset.
- Ability to work rotating shifts.
- Capable of performing physical tasks.
- Strong ability to accurately measure, record, and analyze data.
- Sound understanding of sampling procedures, quality control standards, and safety protocols.
- Ability to clearly report findings and collaborate effectively with team members.
- Advanced computer skills, including high proficiency in operating spreadsheets and word processing software.
