This hands-on role supports safe, reliable equipment operation and timely return to service across multiple mine projects.

The successful candidate works with the shop supervisor and site maintenance teams, diagnoses faults methodically, completes quality repairs, and records work clearly so equipment condition and outstanding defects are understood.

Primary Responsibilities
Maintenance and Repairs
• Inspect, service, troubleshoot, and repair a mixed fleet that may include jumbos, scoops/LHDs, underground haul trucks, scissor decks, bolters, ANFO loaders, Toyota man carriers, tractors, and related support equipment.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, electrical systems, powertrains, braking and steering systems, and equipment controls using manuals, schematics, diagnostic tools, and test equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance, component changes, adjustments, rebuild work, and repairs in accordance with manufacturer instructions and shop procedures.
• Complete post-repair inspections and functional tests; identify any remaining defects before recommending equipment for return to service.
• Recognize repeat failures, investigate likely causes, and communicate findings and repair options to the shop supervisor.

Shop work and parts control
• Work from assigned priorities and advise the supervisor when new safety concerns, hidden damage, parts shortages, or changes in repair scope affect the schedule.
• Identify required parts from inspections and create parts lists, service information, and equipment history; confirm part numbers and compatibility before submitting requests.
• Use tools, lifting devices, stands, and shop equipment correctly; care for assigned tools and keep work areas clean and organized.
• Coordinate with welders, vendors, and OEM technicians on assigned repairs and provide accurate technical information when specialist support is needed.

Equipment records and work orders
• Document inspection findings, diagnostics, labour, parts used, work performed, meter readings, test results, and outstanding defects on work orders.
• Report equipment condition and repair progress clearly to the supervisor and flag work that affects mobilization or site availability.
• Assist with scheduled services, brake or ramp testing, fire suppression checks, emissions testing where applicable, and other assigned inspections.

Equipment preparation and site support
• Inspect and prepare equipment returning from mine sites or being mobilized, including attachments, guarding, lights, alarms, safety devices, fluid levels, and required repairs.
• Assist with pre-mobilization checks, transport preparation, commissioning, field troubleshooting, and site repairs when assigned and qualified.
• Communicate with operators and site maintenance personnel to confirm reported faults and verify that repairs address the original concern.

Safety, environmental, and compliance
• Follow Hancon Mining policies, applicable occupational health and safety requirements, mine-site standards, and manufacturer instructions.
• Complete hazard assessments and use lockout/tagout, energy isolation, lifting and blocking controls, hot-work procedures, and pre-use inspections as required.
• Stop unsafe work, report hazards and near misses, and remove defective tools or equipment from use until they can be assessed.
• Handle and dispose of oils, fuels, batteries, gases, filters, and other controlled materials according to shop and environmental procedures.

Qualifications and Experience
Required
• Licensed Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (421A) or equivalent recognized trade qualification; relevant technical training and heavy equipment experience may be considered.

• Valid driver’s licence and ability to travel to mine sites and meet site-access requirements when assigned.
• Strong safety practices, dependable workmanship, and the ability to work independently and with a shop team.
